The 4 billion solar power station owning 1000MW installed capacity broke ground at 17th in Blythe California, which has planed to complete in 2013. The developer California government claimed the constructing scale of the solar power station is in the forefront of world so far.
Salazar, American Interior Minister said at opening ceremony that Blythe solar power plant will be a milestone of renewable energy development in US which means America is striving for leading position of the future technology—renewable energy. By developing the renewable energy, America not only can guarantee the energy security but also can create a lot employment opportunities.
Beside sunshine, solar power generation also need a lot of land while the south of California has abundant sunshine and own a lot low commercial value land which is the very place for developing solar power plant. Before this, 9 small-scale solar power stations have been built in surrounding area whose installed capacity reached 354MW, and a 370MW solar power plant is being built. However the installed capacity of Blythe solar power station is close to capacity of a nuclear power plant.
The California governor Brown said in the opening ceremony that California government planed the renewable energy consumption accounted for 33% of total energy consumption before 2020. The construction of Blythe solar power plant makes an important step to realize the aim.
