

Switzerland planed to generally give up nuclear power

According to the communiqué released by Federal Government of Switzerland on 25th, before 2034 Switzerland will close down all nuclear power plants gradually and give up nuclear power generally.
Leuthard, the minister of Swiss Federal Transportation, Communications and Energy, expressed in Berne that Switzerland decided to give up nuclear energy power generation gradually, all of its 5 nuclear power plants will be closed down after their 50-year top service life which means before 2034 the last nuclear power plant will be closed down in Switzerland.
Swiss Federal Government pointed out that Switzerland will enhance energy utilization efficiency, continue to develop hydropower and renewable energy, extend the energy import, develop the smart grid and promote the research and development in energy field.
Recently 40% of electricity comes from nuclear power in Switzerland. After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant Explosion led by Japan massive earthquake and tsunami in March, Swiss Federal Government announced that they will suspend the update and alteration project of 5 current nuclear power plants and check the security of operating nuclear power plants and instruct Federal Transportation, Communications and Energy to make a sound judgment for future energy supplying outlook.
